Because every baby has a different preference when it comes to swings, the Graco Duetsoothe Swing + Rockers variable swing directions are key. You can spin the seat 180 degrees, meaning your baby can swing from side-to-side facing either direction, or from front-to-back. Overall, we think this swing is likely to soothe your baby, no matter their swinging preferences.
The Duetsoothe is a bulky 34 inches wide and 43 inches tall, but its lean look and grey coloring make it visibly less obtrusive than many of the other swings we tested. You can remove the seat and use it as a stand-alone rocker, which gives you a portable place to set your baby anywhere in the house. Note that the rocker itself is not electronic (the full swing can be plugged in or operated using D batteries), so you may have to walk by and kick it occasionally to keep your baby moving.
The Duetsoothe contains many useful and fun features: a mobile with three stuffed bears, 10 subtle classical music songs (and a range of volumes), white noise in the form of five nature soundtracks, and a two-speed, battery-operated vibration setting. This was also one of the quietest swings we testedunlike many of the other models, the motor didnt make loud noises and there was no back-and-forth clicking sound. And it slows down when you reach in to touch your baby or remove them from the swing, then speeds up again once youve removed your hands.
The DuetSoothe is also made with high-quality materials, which suggests that you could use this swing for quite some time, and also that its still a good purchase even if its been used by another family. The seatwhich was fairly recumbenthas a 5-point harness and a padded headrest. It contains an infant insert, and can be used for babies from 5.5 to 30 pounds. (Note that the weight limit on the stand-alone rocker is only 18 pounds.) You can easily remove the seat pad (which is attached via elastic loops and straps) and machine wash it in cold water on a delicate cycle, but the brand recommends air drying the pad after you do so.
A few downsides: The DuetSooth swings at six speeds, but we found that anything over the 4th speed was too fast and risked rolling our baby from side to side, as well as hitting other things in the room because of the swings width. It was also fairly difficult to build; after 30 minutes, we abandoned the tough-to-decipher manual and headed to YouTube. And even when its detached from the swing, the rocker is bulky and tough to take in the car; if youre planning to carry a swing with you to multiple locations, youll want to pick something else.
The DuetSoothe had nearly 2,000 reviews on Amazon at the time of this writing, with an overall rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. Most of the reviews are positive, but some users complain about a clicking noise that develops after using the swing for a month or more, which is likely a motor issue. We didnt have this problem but swings are notorious for developing motor problems, so we recommend reaching out to Graco and asking for replacement parts if that issue happens in your home.
Heres what to research and watch for while purchasing a baby swing.
Even if it is meant for an infant, a swing can be quite large and occupy plenty of space in your room. It is hence better to measure your space before you buy a swing.
Anything you buy for your bub needs to be sturdy enough to accommodate them safely but with swings, the build quality matters even more. After all, you will leave your baby inside rocking and swinging in different motions.

Since swings are padded to provide enough comfort to your baby, consider choosing a model that allows you to remove the layers of padding as your baby grows. This is because once your baby starts getting older, a lot of padding will occupy too much room in the seat, giving your bub a little space to sit comfortably.
If your budget allows, prioritize picking up a swing that has more variable vibrations so that your baby can enjoy various motions as per their mood.
Infant swings have reclined seats to let your bub lie flat until they cant hold their head up on their own whereas a sit up baby swing is perfect for older babies and toddlers who can support their head and neck. It is hence better to consider a model that allows you to adjust the seat recline as your baby grows.
Whether the swings seat is adjustable or it is a sit up baby swing meant for babies older than 6 months, choose a model that has a three or five-point safety harness to prevent your little one from slipping out of the upright seat.
If you are more inclined towards portability within the home or for travel purposes, look for models that are easier to carry or fold.
Moreover, choose a model that is easy to assemble and use without any hassles.
Some baby swings are manual while others use some power source to run, such as batteries or electricity. While battery run swings are more portable, they require timely battery charging and replacements. Electric swings are more convenient but less portable.
It is not necessary to pay a premium price to get high-quality items with all the specifications you need. You can buy the best and safe swing with many value-added features even with budget-friendly and medium-ranged swings. All you need is to look for the bestselling models by some of the major brands. However, you should not compromise your babys safety just to save a few bucks.
Furthermore, extra features like light projectors, motorized mobile, hanging rattles or charms, music and soothing sounds, and even connection to an MP3 source to let you play whatever music you want can turn your swing into invaluable baby gear to keep your little bundle of joy happy and occupied.
Last but not least, if you are buying a new baby swing or listing it on your baby registry, make sure it meets the safety regulations as set forth by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). If you are using an old swing, always check that the model hasnt been recalled on the official websites of JPMA and CPSC.
